Q. How can I best prepare for the workshop that I am planning to lead?A. Before leading the workshop, you will be working closely with one of the Global Classrooms Educators. During these conversations, you will have the opportunity to discuss ideas, ask questions, and find out more about the students and the classroom environment. Samples of past presentations are available here. By sharing ideas with the GC Educators, you can discuss, plan and incorporate age-appropriate activities, images, music, and videos that highlight various cultural aspects of your country.
Q. How can I learn about my students before planning and leading the workshopA. Global Classroom staff is your best and safest bet for this information. With considerable experience working with most of the students that you will be connecting with, they can help you learn about these students’ interests and personalities.

Q. What are some ways to manage the classroom?A. The best way to manage the class is to plan activities that the students can be thoroughly engaged in and you can find some ideas here. However, Global Guides are not fully responsible for managing the classroom. The Global Classroom staff accompanies you into the classroom and stays with you throughout your workshop. The schools also allocate teaching staff for this purpose. If you have any questions or concerns about this, feel free to talk about them with your GC Educator. Finally, don't forget to take a look at guidelines for different age groups here.
Q. What is the time duration of each class?
A. In-school workshops are generally about 45-55 minutes while after-school workshops can last anywhere from one and a half to two hours.

Q. How do I relate / connect with the students?A. The key is always the planning. Try to put yourself in their shoes and then imagine what might involve and interest them. Discuss your ideas with the GC Educators. These students can become your biggest resource to learn about the American culture and way of living. Through the workshop activities try to create opportunities to share and listen to what they have to say. This will help both you and them in being astounded and impressed by the similarities and differences in the two cultures. As you know, cultural awareness leads to cultural understanding.
Q. When is the next training to become a Global Guide?A. There is usually one training per semester, in September for the fall and February for the spring. Depending on interest and scheduling needs, we may hold a smaller training during the middle of the semester, but this is not guaranteed. For more details, feel free to contact Leanna Carroll.
